A crowd packed the Winston-Salem First Church on August 29, 2025. The air was electric, with hands raised in worship as gospel recording artist Chandler Moore took the stage. Yet, he hadn't sung a single note. Instead, his quiet prayers resonated through the room, igniting the spirit of the congregation.
Suddenly, a guitar plucked, and the room erupted. The crowd sang in unison, "Christ is my firm foundation, The Rock on which I stand," the lyrics from his hit song "Firm Foundation."
Hailing from Charleston, SC, just like my family, seeing his success felt like a shared victory. It was as if a distant cousin had made it, and the crowd more like family than fans felt it too. Many knelt or stood with tears streaming down their faces, finding solace and strength in his ministry. We had all been through moments where we didn't think we would make it.
Chandler Moore’s voice filled the room, holding everyone in his thrall. Young and old, the crowd moved as one, dancing and singing with an uninhibited joy. It was a beautiful sight a community transformed into a single, happy family, celebrating with every lyric. The night was a perfect reunion of hearts and souls.
After the show, I spotted a young lady still in tears. I asked if I could take her picture and interview her. Of course, she denied the picture since her face was full of tears and she had messed her make-up. She had just moved from Kansas City, MO, with her children. "We just moved from a place where so much violence was happening, and now we're finally feeling at peace," she said. Their favorite song was "Firm Foundation," and she was overjoyed to see her children find happiness at the concert. "It was worth it!" she told me.
